Community, Culture & Identity.
Founded by Anselmo “Chemo” Candelaria in 1959, The San Jose Black Berets have played an integral part in walk-outs, sit-ins and marches against violence in our community.
We aim to inspire positive self-esteem, promote self-respect, dignity, and pride in ones’ heritage. We want to provide education in our culture in history for our youth and communities.
Youth Warriors Circle
Support our yearly efforts to provide a cost free camp for inner city native youth. Every summer we take local native youth out of the city and provide an experience that reinforces the importance of culture, community, respect for one another and team work.
Here for our community
The San Jose Black Berets Por La Justicia have been involved in countless community events. We provide security services for public and private events, presentations on our culture, clean up services for our elders in the community and organize protests & peace walks against gang and gun violence.
“The either/or proposition that forces you to choose between your community and, say, your country has never been true. The very skills we learn to cross borders within ourselves help us to cross borders toward others outside our community.”
— Sergio Troncoso
